Chapter 55 
“Well, they were aware of details about me that shouldn’t have been feasible. I’ve been trying to figure out how on earth they have realized what they should perform to save me… and the only explanation I could think of is that, it may have been the hand of God or that we are mated.” 
‘Or perhaps they cooperated with the criminals. I had the thought, but I refrained from saying it out loud. 
She had large, inquisitive blue eyes, so I tried my best not to giggle as she stared at me. I knew it was terrible, but there was something insane about the way the whole thing played out. I additionally established a mental point to guarantee Lily would cover her tracks better going forward. 
The fact that she was still alive and healthy made me really joyful. It was comforting to witness a result of something positive that might arise, despite all the distressing events that had transpired this evening. Similar to when I gazed at Ava, I felt warm and cozy inside when I stared at her. She wasn’t supposed to be breathing right now, but she was. Thanks to me. 
The issue was that I couldn’t reveal to her my identity, since doing so would compromise and trigger a series of inquiries that I would be unable to respond to. 
Then, should I confess that I was unfamiliar with them? After giving it some thought, I felt bad about making this girl waste her moment traveling the nation in pursuit of a person who was not real. She believed that her true love would be a 
foreigner, who would help her via their close bond. Would anybody be able to meet such criteria at any point in time? Even I, in all honesty, could see how that may be really romantic. 
“I knew Alistair,” I mumbled. As I stated it, I noticed her thrill spread throughout her. “But I’m sorry, he passed away last year from old age.” 
I abruptly made her voyage come to an end by forcing it. It eliminated any possibility that he may be her mate by asserting that he died. 
I truly felt bad since I noticed the sparkle in her eyes dying at what I said. But it worked out best. 
“Oh… Oh,” she replied with sadness audible in her tone. It took her a while to put up a smile and attempt to giggle at 
everything. “That’s alright, I suppose. In any case, it was only a silly delusion.” 
“Ahh, but if they were the ones who saved your life, they must be happy to see you doing well, right?” 
While I was attempting to come up with something to cheer her up, I must admit that I was somewhat at a loss for words. 
She laughed somewhat more brightly. “I guess so.” 
“Anyway, I’m Winona Granger,” I introduced, extended my hand to her. 
As the conversation changed, I could tell that she was more at ease, even her smile growing more sincere. “I’m Zoey Sullivan. You did say ‘Winona,’ correct? I’ve heard a lot of you.” 
I instantly shivered. I hoped that we wouldn’t start talking 
about my mark throughout our chat. 
“Girls like myself find a little motivation in you. For your action and.position as a Beta heir, of course.” 
“Oh?” I responded. I had no idea that my reputation was going to follow me in that way. 
“Since I’m the only kid of the Alpha… I was obliged to agree that being mated off was my destiny in life, in order to avoid interfering with the ranking duties.” 
Oh, I see. She was a ranked daughter. She wouldn’t be allowed to apply for the position, of course. Even so, I was aware that it would be terrible for her. An Alpha, though, was another matter. She would probably cause political upheaval within her own pack if she sought the top position, which was essentially the same situation I was in with my marking. 
“Not that I’d go after it, but… any suggestions?” she couldn’t help questioning. 
I apologized with a grimace. “I wish I had… but please let me know if I can be of any assistance.” 
She had no mark, which regrettably made my position different. Invoking that falsehood about the Goddess leading me was a risky move on my part, but it had fortunately paid off, something she wouldn’t be able to accomplish. I thought that, at the absolute least, my promotion to Beta would demonstrate to others that women were as qualified for the position. 
“I suppose I know where to seek, if I need a Saintess now.” She winked. 
I was confident that she would find a mate quickly with such actions. She was so lovely that I was astonished she wasn’t dating already, whether it was a selected or a partner of destiny. 
“I suppose, I should definitely go inside now. However, it is wonderful to see you.” She turned to face me and began to walk towards the exit. “I also hope that you will get better… from the wind and other factors, I mean.” 
“Of course,” I grinned and somewhat laughed at myself. 
“I’m genuinely expecting another person here, whether you believe it or not. They might be considered a hot date, I guess. But this time, I promise, he is someone alive,” she chuckled. “But I do hope we might cross paths again sometime.” 
“That’d be nice. Good luck, Zoey, on your hot date.” 
As I saw her enter the building, she nodded at me lastly. 
She eventually re-joined the group of people, so I turned around to reflect on the entire situation. Such a melancholy night, that was how it seemed. I was filled with such… chaos. Bash returned just to play with me… then meeting an alive Zoey, which I would never imagine. 
After a while, I eventually groaned in defeat and looked at my hands, only to discover that I still held Zoey’s handkerchief. 
I swore at myself, then hurriedly went inside, in the way I believed I had seen her heading. 
However, I came to a complete halt when I eventually spotted her in the corner. 
Due to the fact that Bash was standing there waiting for her, grinning broadly as he tightly hugged her and placed his hands over her waist. The big shocker, though, came to me when they parted. As I witnessed Zoey kissing his cheek after 
that: 
I quickly turned on my heels and returned outdoors without interfering. 
Absolutely. I had remained on the balcony for the same reason. What phrase had Zoey used? ‘Hot date! 
Well, it made sense. 
For even a split second, I thought Bash had been serious, so I was furious with myself for it. Given his past, I should know better than to consider the possibility that it might be true for a split second. 
For a while, I roasted in my own annoyance, before finally being startled out by a wolf’s howl that echoed through the night. Then I realized that Benjamin’s first shift had to have started. 
However, as I turned to see below the balcony, the person who drew my attention wasn’t Benjamin near the forest. That was someone I was familiar with, though. 
Then I finally remembered what I ended up ignoring, the last few months, due to my hectic new routine. I eventually understood what had been bothering me so much within. 
Considering that it was right beneath the balcony, peering up 
at me.
