would believe me anyway.” 
Liam turned toward the door without saying anything.

leave!” 
I finally managed to stop Liam in his tracks. 
I was gripped by a feeling of panic as I stared at Liam’s back.

things more difficult for you.” Liam looked me in the eye and said in a harsh 
tone, “Otherwise, I’ll grant your wish and end everything for you.” 
Then, he let go of me and stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut 
behind him. 
As soon as the door was closed, I could hear the sound of it being locked. 
I treaded slowly toward the window and looked out. I could see the reporters 
gathering outside the L.M building’s main entrance. There were even more of 
them here as compared to the ones waiting outside my apartment building. 
If I jumped off the building from here, those reporters would surely be able to 
capture some photos and report my death. It’d probably be enough to cover 
up those unsavory scandals about me, and everyone would soon forget 
about what happened to me. 
Jumping off from here seems like a very good option for me now.

I placed both my hands on the handle and tried to open the window. Then, I 
heard the same clack from when the door was locked earlier.

After all three of them left, I sat down in a chair and stared blankly out of the 
window at the gray sky. I couldn’t open the window, nor was I able to find any 
sharp tools in the room. I didn’t have the appetite to eat anything as well. 
It was almost noon when those three showed up inside the meeting room 
again. The secretary brought lunch with her this time. It was smoked salmon. 
I caught a whiff of the fish and felt my stomach turn almost instantly. I shook

my head and said, “Bring all of the food, including the ones on the table, out. I 
don’t feel like eating now.” 
The secretary asked, “Should I get you something else?” 
I refused her offer. Soon, the three of them left and locked the door. 
I still felt extremely nauseous as the smell of food lingered in the air. Finally, I 
decided to reach for the intercom and got to my feet. 
I had only taken a few steps forward when everything turned dark before my 
eyes. As my legs gave out, I could feel myself dropping onto the floor. 
For quite some time, I lay on the floor as I drifted in and out of consciousness. 
Then, I picked up some noises. 
“What’s happened to her?” It was the voice of a woman. “Ms. Nyra, please 
wake up.”

I could vaguely see a light purple form hovering above me. 
A brief moment later, I heard the same voice again. “I think she’s not feeling 
well. Rina, send her to the hospital.” 
It’s the same voice I have heard from Liam’s phone back then.

getting some rest.” 
After what seemed like a really long time, I woke up again in the hospital bed. 
Chris happened to be disconnecting the drip from my arm. He beamed a 
slight smile at me. “Your temperature has gone down. Do you feel a bit 
better?” 
I saw the bruises near his eyes and his swollen face. He appeared to be using 
a new pair of glasses too.

I gave a slight nod. Then, I said in a cracked voice, “I’m sorry.” 
Chris was momentarily stunned. “Why are you suddenly apologizing?”

I thought it would be better if I kept some distance from him, but….

After I had a quick shower, Chris returned with a bowl of clear soup noodles. 
I was so nauseated by the smell of food even though it was not strong or 
pungent. I asked, “I’ve been feeling nauseous for the past few days… Could it
